About This Session

Attended the "What is Google App Engine? introductory talk on the first day of CodeCamp but want to actually build a real app and get help from Google engineers? In this hands-on workshop, users will learn how to create applications that run on Google App Engine by building a simple but real web application from the ground up. You'll create an app and run it on your local development server but will also have the option to upload your app to Google and the Internet and see your app live to the entire world!

Based on the online tutorial, attendees will get more detailed step-by-step instructions as well as have the opportunity to extend their application beyond what is available in the App Engine documentation. The codelab will be executed on-screen in Python, as it is the fastest to implement and easiest to understand, regardless of your core competency. Java users are also welcome!

Please make sure you have all the software installed on your computer before coming to the workshop. Mac and Linux computers already have Python installed. PC users should download Python at http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.4/python-2.5.4.msi and Google App Engine can be downloaded at http://code.google.com/appengine/downloads.html.

Java users, please see this doc to get started: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/gettingstarted/introduction.html
